The menu is a rich tapestry of Puerto Rican staples and Caribbean favorites, each prepared with a dedication to authenticity and bold flavors. Among the standout dishes, the Pollo al Horno paired with sweet, caramelized maduros (sweet plantains) is a customer favorite—juicy, tender oven-roasted chicken perfectly balanced by the natural sweetness of the plantains. Another must-try is the mofongo, a dish that has customers raving for its perfectly seasoned, hearty mashed plantains often stuffed with flavorful meats and served with a savory broth that sings with every spoonful.
For those looking to start on a flavorful note, the Bacalaito fritters, with their crispy, golden crust and tender Alaskan cod filling, make for an irresistible appetizer. The bacon-wrapped sweet plantains provide a delightful interplay of sweet and smoky, a true crowd-pleaser. And don’t miss the unique sauces like the pique de pina—a vibrant pineapple-based hot sauce that adds an extra punch to many dishes.
Dessert lovers are spoiled for choice with exquisite options like the creamy coconut flan and the uniquely refreshing sweet plantain ice cream, offering a sweet, tropical finale to your meal. Complement your feast with authentic beverages such as their house sangria or traditional Puerto Rican sodas like Goya Coconut and Cola Champagne, rounding out the island experience with every sip.

I go to El Coqui a lot and it’s always amazing. The food is consistently vibrant, flavorful and authentic. I highly recommend Pollo al Horno with sweet plantains to perfectly seasoned mofongo and hearty rice and beans plates. The portion sizes and quality stay top-notch every time. What really stands out is that it’s a women-owned spot, run with care and pride, making every visit feel welcoming and special. If you’re in Santa Rosa and craving real Puerto Rican cuisine this is the place. Highly recommend.
Never had mofongo this way before but I think Hubby will ask that we make at home this way in the future. The meat was stuffed inside the mofongo and the whole thing was served in the most flavorful broth I have ever had in a Puerto Rican restaurant. The Bacalaitos were on point too!
This is our third time coming here, a 2 hour drive, one time I brought my mother who was visiting from ????????. She was impressed with the taste and we've always loved it. Today our empanadillos came out cold, and we noticed the table next to us had the same problem, otherwise the service has been outstanding. We requested a new one, it came out hot and was delicious. We'll be back again
Randomly I wandered upon this restaurant. Since my sister in law is Puerto Rican I texted her the menu. I showed the text message straight to my waitress. I really had no clue what I was getting myself into but the food was incredible. I had enough for two meals and I wish I was local because I would eat here regularly.
Found this place to take my fiance to enjoy a Valentine's dinner of his culture, since I don't cook Puerto Rican food. It was worth the hour and a half drive! Food was authentically prepared. Took our taste buds back to family cooking and reminded us of places we have eaten at in Puerto Rico. Very well priced. Adding to the island vibe that's on point, with decor and music. Don't forget to have a sangria. Wepa! Update of my review years later! April 27, 2025 we still love this place. Sol was amazing as our server and bartender. Her Coconut Pineapple Sangrias are so refreshing and tasty. My Camarones all Criollo tasted like home. Chicharrón de pollo will not disappoint. Cheers!
